WOW! Women’s Only Weekend

As Featured in Total Women's Cycling

Thursday 10th - Monday 14th May 2018 - 4 Nights

An opportunity for women who enjoy cycling to get together to improve fitness and stamina in a relaxed 'social' environment. Improve or be introduced to Alpine climbing and descending during this fairly challenging 4 days of riding in the Vercors. Spectacular climbs, breathtaking descents with rolling and flatter roads in between.

...The setting is exceptional with comfortable rooms, an amazing grange to relax in and an exhilarating splash pool to cool off. We are not the most serious of cyclists and found the area challenging but Dom our guide was fabulous, he ensured our cycling was testing but fun. The scenery was breathtaking. It was a fantastic girls long weekend break, I would thoroughly recommend it. Louise E. Amersham. 2016.

The week is aimed at women who are either regular cyclists or come from other sports with a fairly good level of fitness who want to enjoy cycling in a cycle friendly environment on roads that are well surfaced with low levels of traffic and courteous drivers. Its a legal requirement for drivers to pass cyclists' at 1.5meters, so you can relax without the thought of being 'squeezed' off the road.

Accompanied Rides

Each day you will be accompanied on a ride with the aim of building your confidence and cycling fitness as the week progresses. Dominic is an accomplished guide and a great motivator.

The Landscape

The terrain is ever changing and always exciting; the routes are along awe-inspiring limestone cliffs, mountain meadows, spectacular valleys, waterfalls, walnut groves, rivers, magnificent medieval villages and the agricultural rolling hills of the Drome. The limestone gorges climb up to mountain villages (1600m) where time has stood and the descents include some of the best in Europe, including the spectacular.

The town of St.Jean-en-Royans is charming and captures the essence of a 'real French town' with its choice of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants as well as a weekly market offering local products including cheeses, honey, fruit and vegetables. Choose from 3 bakers or visit the artisan patissier...

Personal Goals

Whether you are training for an event or just want to put in the miles and make general all round improvements to fitness and cycling skills the variety of routes and landscape and the excellent guiding and support will offer you the opportunity to reach your personal goals. The Itinerary is an example of the routes we will take but they may vary.

Fri 11th A spectacular ride into the Vercors with an overall ascent of 970m taking in a 14km climb to the plateau , a short sharp 4km climb followed by a 14km ‘mind blowing’ descent down the Combe Lavel  gorge with awe-inspiring views.

Sat 12th A 70km ride at a steady 20-25kph climbing the magnificent Gorge de la Bourne and continuing up the gorge to Villard de Lans - France's first ski resort. Lunch in busy town square followed by fabulous ride back to base. Hard ride, but the rewards far out way the effort.

Sun 13th An 'undulating' 60km ride into the Drome de Collines (rolling hills of the Drome) with an 8km climb to St.Antoine de L’Abbaye – a beautiful medieval hilltop village and officially one of the prettiest in France. Mon 14th Departure day. Transfers to airport. Au revoir!

Bike and Clothing Information

If you don't want the bother of bringing your own bike you can hire from a range of Top End Trek bikes from our associates France Bike Rentals who will have your bike sized and waiting for your arrival.

If you are bringing your own bike you will need a triple ring or Compact.

The days at this time of year are generally warm and the evenings chilly. You will need arm warmers, long shorts, wind proof jacket, gloves and hat for the descents which can still be very cold. There can be a difference of at least 10 degrees centigrade between our base at 250m and the Top of the Alpine Climb at 1000m.

Once the sun goes down it will get cold so bring warm clothes for the evening.
