The Vercors, Drome and Isere regions
We are located in the South East in the charming French town of St.Jean-en-Royans at the foothills of the Vercors. South of Grenoble and north of Provence. This region has a huge diveristy of terrain and ever changing landscapes; from Alpine mountain passes and gorges, vast plateaux, rolling hills and the flatter Isere Valley making it a perfect destination for all cyclists.
All our routes are chosen for their quietness, well surfaced roads, spectacular views, endless photo opportunities and great coffee and restaurant stops.
A 'real' French experience
Our location in the heart of a 'real rural' French town offers you the opportunity to leave the fast lane behind and experience a more relaxed, easy going French pace of life. St.Jean-en-Royans has a weekly market where you can buy direct from local farmers and producers and a superb infrastructure of cafes, restaurants and shops including 4 bakers, a butcher, a deli, greengrocers selling local, home made, seasonal foods and famous Cotes de Rhone wine. The boutique shops, chemists, banks, tourist office, church means its quite possible to spend many happy hours strolling around when you are not cycling. A short stroll to the top of town will bring you to the open air swimming pool with the Vercors mountain range as the backdrop.
We fell in love with the Vercors and surrounding region over 20 years ago when Roger was signed to the VCRP team in the nearby town of Romans-sur-Isere for the last 2 years of his 12 year International/GB cycling career. The club was also home to the Tour de France yellow Jersey holder and local boy, Charley Mottet.
Having trained and raced in the region, experienced the highs, lows, determination and stamina it takes to be a Top level cyclist Roger is here to pass on his cycling knowledge, nutritional advice and top tips on Alpine climbing and descending.
Self-catering gites (rural cottages) for a weekly break or B&B accommodation with independent front door access for shorter stays. We can accommodate up to 18 people at the same time.
Free Wi-Fi is available in all locations. Choose a quiet spot in our garden or pick a selection of herbs for your evening meal. The canal carrying fresh, mountain water which runs alongside the gites to feed our neighbours organic trout farm has become a very popular 'ice bath' for tired legs.
There is a secure bike area with tools, washing facilities and a large parking area for cars.
The Vercors is a superb base to train for the Marmotte or The Etape or just to experience an International Sportive and we support a number of local, well organised sportives on closed or rolling roads, on well surfaced roads with a party atmosphere and a warm welcome in all the villages and towns you pass through
Alpe d'Huez and Mont Ventoux
We are a perfect mid-point base for Day Trips to climb the mythical Alpe d'Huez and Mont Ventoux.
This video captures the thrill of descending Alpe d'Huez.
If you don't want the hassle of bringing your own bike you can hire from a selection of Top Spec Carbon and Aluminium road bikes, Scott or Trek hybrid bikes, children's bikes, tagalongs or childseats.
We are an easy destination to get to by train, plane or car for a week or a weekend. 7 hours door to door from London, St.Pancras to Valence TGV. For non-cyclists or those who also want a different experience there is a huge variety of other activities and sightseeing interests.
A wonderful base to explore the beautiful surrounding cols with ample opportunity to kill yourself chasing the fast boys up the hills... Roger is a fantastic guide...great hospitality thank you.
